Notes on the Official Poverty Statistics in the
Philippines ![]()
Series 2003-1
July 2003
Dissemination
A. Periodicity of dissemination
Poverty statistics (food/poverty thresholds, subsistence/poverty incidence, income gap, poverty gap, severity of poverty) are computed every three years since FIES, its basic source of data, is conducted every three years. However, by virtue of NSCB Resolution No. 9, Series of 2000, annual food and poverty thresholds have been computed in-between FIES years, starting 1998. The same methodology is used for estimating the food thresholds, but the (FE/TBE) raising factor derived from the latest FIES is used to arrive at the annual poverty threshold. No poverty incidence, poverty and income gaps and severity of poverty measures are available in-between FIES years.
For timely release of thresholds model based food and poverty thresholds for both FIES and non-Fies years are released as stated in NSCB Resolution No. 5 Series of 2007.
B. Mode and schedule of dissemination
Unless there is a change in the official methodology, the NSCB target is to release the poverty estimates two months after the public use files of FIES and the NSO/BAS prices are made available to the NSCB. The estimates are posted on the NSCB website at www.nscb.gov.ph and are also available in electronic form.
