Basic education continued to receive the
biggest allocation of the country's education expenditures

As expected, basic education received the biggest allocation of the country's education expenditures. From 54.1 percent in 1991, its share continued to increase, ending with 70.9 percent in 1998. The next biggest shares in education spending were those used for ancillary activities and higher education, with their respective allocations of 16.3 and 7.7 percent in 1998.
