Status of Livestock and Poultry Production in 2004

The Bureau of Agricultural Statistics (BAS) has released the preliminary data on the fourth quarter 2004 livestock production, with the total production for 2004 reaching 2,202.7 thousand metric tons liveweight, a reduction of 0.3 percent compared to 2003. The 2004 livestock production by type of animal was distributed as follows: hogs, 78.2%, cattle, 11.6%, carabao, 6.3%, goat, 3.4% and dairy (caracow’s and cow’s milk), 0.5%.
Meanwhile, poultry production for 2004 which reached 1,638.14 thousand metric tons liveweight, grew by 4.2 percent compared to 2003. Poultry production is distributed as follows: chicken, 75.2%, duck, 3.2%, chicken eggs, 18.1% and duck eggs, 3.5%.
The generation of livestock and poultry statistics is a designated statistical activity of the BAS under Executive Order No. 352, Designation of Statistical Activities That Will Generate Critical Date for Decision-Making of the Government and the Private Sector, issued on July 1, 1996.
