2000 Census of Philippine Business and Industry:
Other Community, Social, and Personal Services (Preliminary Results)

The National Statistics Office (NSO) has released the preliminary results of the 2000 Census of Philippine Business and Industry (CPBI) for Other Community, Social and Personal Services Sector. The census results, which had 1999 as reference year, show that there were 40, 257 establishments in the Philippines engaged in other community, social and personal services. These establishments dealt with dry cleaning, hairdressing and funeral activities (26,485 establishments or 65.8%); recreational, cultural and sporting activities (13,710 establishments or 34.1%); and sewerage and refuse disposal, sanitation and similar activities (62 establishments or 0.1%).
Establishments having an average total employment (ATE) of less than 20 numbered to 39,534 or 98.2% of the total number of establishments. Only 723 or 1.8 percent establishments had ATE 20 or over. The National Capital Region recorded the most number of establishments for this sector at 10,630 (26.4%). Cordillera Administrative Region (CAR) and Autonomous Region in Muslim Mindanao (ARMM) had the least number with a combined 711 establishments (1.8%).
The total number of workers in the sector reached 175,317 of which 127,535 were paid employees. Total compensation amounted to P9,528,883 for the year 1999 translating to an average monthly compensation of P6,226 per paid employee.
Total revenues earned by the sector amounted to P56.02 billion for the year 1999. Establishments involved in recreational, cultural and sporting activities contributed P45.6 billion or 81.4% of the total revenues while the rest of the establishments in the sector contributed P10.42 billion or 18.6% of the total revenues.
