Exports of Goods and Services

Total Exports down

Total Exports went down, albeit slower, by 10.0 percent from the negative 11.5 percent growth registered in the fourth quarter of the previous year as both Merchandise Exports and Non Merchandise Exports suffered reversals in growth.

Merchandise Exports declines

Total Merchandise Exports declined, albeit slower, by 9.1 percent from negative 9.4 percent in the same quarter of last year as both Monetization of Gold and Principal Merchandise Exports posted declines of 56.1 percent from a growth of 190.8 percent and 3.1 percent from negative 16.7 percent, respectively.

Growth of Merchandise Exports was pulled down by the following commodities: Semiconductors and Electric Microcircuits, negative 17.9 percent from negative 23.8 percent; Garments, negative 16.0 percent from negative 8.0 percent; Banana and Plantains, negative 45.2 percent from negative 1.5 percent; Desiccated Coconut, negative 52.5 percent from a growth of 35.3 percent; and, Gold from Copper Ores, negative 73.7 percent from 23.4 percent.

On the other hand, the top five Merchandise Exports which posted positive growths were: Finished Electrical Machinery, rebounded to 13.8 percent from negative 31.2 percent; Transmission Apparatus; ballooned to 157.1 percent from 28.2 percent; Iron Agglomerates, turned around to 185.9 percent from negative 36.3 percent; Copra Oil, Cake & Meal, expanded by 194.4 percent from negative 56.9 percent; and, Other Products Manufactured, 26.7 percent from negative 30.9 percent.

Export of Non-Factor Services down

Exports of Non-Factor Services shrank to, albeit lower, negative 13.9 percent from negative 19.4 percent in the previous year.  Contributing to the fall of the Sector were: Miscellaneous Services, negative 13.8 from a growth of 4.0 percent; Transportation, negative 40.8 percent from negative 18.1 percent; and Travel, negative 9.2 percent from negative 43.4 percent.

On the other hand, the rebound of Insurance by 115.0 percent from negative 55.2 percent softened the decline of the sector.
