CAR inflation slows down to 2.7% in May 2009

The year-on-year headline inflation rate of the Cordillera Administrative Region (CAR)  decelerated  to 2.7 percent in May 2009 from 4.9 percent in April this year. Food, Beverages and Tobacco, which comprise bulk of the region's consumer basket, fell by a hefty 3.0 percentage points last month, causing the drop in the overall level. Most items included in the region's market basket also registered declining inflation rates except for clothing which inched-up by 0.1 percentage point.  Housing and Repairs dropped by 2.0 percentage points while Services and Fuel, Light & Water each fell by 1.9 percentage points. The Miscellaneous commodity group declined by 0.2 percentage point. The Consumer Price Index and the corresponding inflation rates are prepared and published monthly by the National Statistics Office.
