The municipality of Tabuk in the province of Kalinga, CAR was converted into a component city to be known as the CITY OF TABUK, pursuant to Republic Act No. 9404, which was ratified through a plebiscite conducted by the COMELEC on June 23, 2007. |
Tabuk is among the thirteen (13) municipalities in the country that were converted into thirteen (13) new cities in the second quarter of 2007 (see NSCB Press Release). Thus, the number of municipalities in CAR is reduced to 75 with the City of Tabuk joining the City of Baguio as the second city of the region. The elevation of Tabuk to cityhood (with 40 barangays) will not however affect its geographic codes since the boundary lines remained the same.
The geo-political subdivisions of the region are now as follows:
| Provinces: | 6 |
| Cities: | 2 |
| Municipalities: | 75 |
| Barangays: | 1,176 |
