One Peso in CAR in 1994 worth only 66 centavos today

Our P1 has lost 34 percent of its value in six years using 1994 as base year as shown by official data from the National Statistics Office (NSO).

As of December 2000, the purchasing power of the peso in the Cordillera Administrative Region (CAR) has been pegged at 66 centavos, while in Baguio City at 67 centavos. This is a 8.3 percent dip in the peso purchasing power (PPP) in the region, from the 72 centavos value during the start of 1999.

Simply said, on average, the same basket of goods and services worth P66 in 1994 can be bought for P100 in December 2000.

The peso value in Baguio City has been relatively higher than that of the whole region's. This implies that with the same amount of money, people can generally buy more goods and services in the city than in any other part of CAR.

At the end of 2000, Benguet had the lowest purchasing power, of P0.63, in the region, while Kalinga-Apayao had the highest at P0.69.

Meanwhile, despite the fluctuations that occurred in the purchasing power of the peso, Abra was able to maintain its January 1999 value, of P0.67, b y December 2000.
