NSCB Announces the Imminent 11th National Convention on Statistics
The Philippine Statistical System (PSS), through the National Statistical Coordination Board (NSCB) announces the imminent 11th National Convention on Statistics (NCS) to be held on October 4-5, 2010 at the EDSA Shangri-la Hotel in Mandaluyong City. The event happens together with the opening of the 21st National Statistics Month (NSM) celebration. The Convention aims to cover a wide range of topics that are deemed relevant and critical in the new millennium and in an information-oriented economy. It provides a forum for exchanging ideas and experiences in the field of statistics and discussing prevailing statistical developments, issues and challenges in the PSS. It further aims to elicit the cooperation and support of statisticians and professionals in related fields from the government, academe and private sector towards a more responsive statistical system.
The 11th NCS involves simultaneous presentation in different scientific sessions of paper that dwells on various statistical topics. For the two-day event, the NSCB will organize about 38 sessions for the presentation of at least 100 papers including highly relevant and emerging subjects on statistics, risk management/analysis, business intelligence, data mining, and micro finance, among others. The proposed topics for the plenary sessions will deal on climate change and the local initiatives to address this global problem, security statistics, and on how Community-Based Monitoring System (CBMS) works as a tool to strengthen local statistical system. To be invited as plenary sessions speakers are: 1) Dr. Hans Rosling of the International Health at Karolinska Institute, Sweden and Director of the Gapminder Foundation; 2) Governor Joey Salceda of Albay Province; 3) Governor Vilma Santos Recto of Batangas Province; and, 4) Undersecretary Antonio Santos of the Department of National Defense (DND).
