Production Improves by 32.6% in 3rd Quarter 2011 The July-September 2011 palay production for Zamboanga Peninsula was 221,552 MT, 32.6% higher than the 2010 level of 167,105 MT. Area harvested expanded by 27.9%, from 43,911 hectares in 2010 to 56,157 hectares this year.

The Labor Force Survey (LFS)
conducted by the National Statistics Office (NSO) showed that the number of employed persons in the
Zamboanga Peninsula in October 2011 was estimated at 1.5 million. This number translates to an employment rate of
96.6
percent which is lower as compared to October 2010 employment rate of 97.0
percent.
The region’s year-on-year inflation
slightly decreased to 6.3 percent in
December 2011 from 6.5 percent in November 2011. It resulted from the
decrease in transport from 9.7 percent to 9.1 percent, food and non
alcoholic beverages from 10.2 percent to 9.7 percent, and recreation
and culture from 2.2 percent to 2.0 percent. However, housing, water, electricity, gas
and other fuels increased to 0.1 percent in December from -0.6
percent in November, clothing and footwear increased to 3.0 percent
from 2.5 percent, and alcoholic beverages and tobacco increased to
8.9 percent from 8.5 percent.
