Zamboanga Peninsula Inflation Accelerated to 3.0 percent in November…
Inflation rate of Zamboanga Peninsula accelerated to 3.0 percent in November from 0.5 percent in October this year. This was primarily due to the 6.0 percentage points increase in Fuel, Light and Water item from 1.1 percent. Annual rate of prices in Food, Beverages and Tobacco and Service items slightly increased to 3.1 percent and 2.8 percent from 0.0 percent and 0.9 percent in October, respectively. Housing and Repairs item improved with an inflation of 0.6 percent in November from 0.7 percent in October. Year-on-year headline inflation rate of Zamboanga Peninsula continued to decelerate at 3.6 percent in May from 8.1 percent in April this year. This was primarily due to the 5.9 percent decrease in Food, Beverage, and Tobacco items from 10.9 percent while the annual rates of price in other items also improved. Unemployment Rate in Zamboanga Peninsula Accelerated to 3.6% in January 2009
Data released by the National Statistics Office (NSO) revealed that for January 2009, the Labor Force Participation Rate in Zamboanga Peninsula decelerated to 65.8 percent from 67.8 percent in October 2008. The unemployment rate was pegged at 3.6 percent from 3.4 percent in October 2008.The percentage of underemployed or those who have jobs but want to work more remains at 21.2 percent of the total employed in January 2009. In the April to June 2008 situation report of the Bureau of Agricultural Statistics - Regional Operation Center 9, it shows that Zamboanga Peninsula's irrigated palay production output showed an increased of about 9.2 percent compared to the same period last year; rainfed palay increased by about 57.8 percent compared to the same period last year due to the increase in the area about 68.6 percent. (posted October 8, 2008) Year-on-year headline inflation rate at Zamboanga Peninsula decelerated to 17.1 percent in September 2008 from 19.4 percent in August 2008. This was primarily due to the 21.0 percent drop in the food, beverages and tobacco (FBT) items from 24.3 percent. Inflation a year ago was 2.7 percent. 5th Mindanao Statistics Congress As an offshoot to the 4th Mindanao Statistical Congress which held last June 2007 in General Santos City, the 5th Mindanao Statistical Congress shall be undertaken in Zamboanga City. The forum shall attempt to gather statisticians and planners of Mindanao to share updates and new ideas that will promote the efficient use of statistics as a development tool. Moreover, the conduct of the Mindanao Statistical Congress will be a step towards promoting, enhancing and instilling wide awareness and appreciation of the importance and value that statistics provide to the different sectors of our society, while at the same time ensuring the support of the public at large in improving and enhancing the quality and standard of statistics in the country. Thus the crucial role of statistics in the area-wide development must be given due recognition and importance. The Municipality of Sergio Osmeña Sr. is one of the 25 municipalities comprising the Province of Zamboanga del Norte. She was created by virtue of Republic Act No. 3697 dated September 14, 1963.
The municipality was carved out of the municipality of Piñan. The barangays that originally comprise the new municipality were Sibulan, Dampalan, Labag, princesa Lamaya and Marapong. Barangay Sibulan was the seat of the new municipal government. more....

Zamboanga Peninsula Inflation Accelerated to 20.3% in July 2008
The inflation in Zamboanga Peninsula further accelerated to 20.3 percent in July from 16.3 percent in June as all the commodity groups continued to record higher inflation rates. All the commodity groups recorded higher inflation rates during the month. Price hikes in Food, Beverage and Tobacco items climbed to 26.0 percent in July from 20.8 percent in June; clothing, 8.3 percent from 8.0 percent; Housing and Repairs, 7.2 percent from 5.9 percent; Fuel, Light and Water, 18.6 percent from 15.0 percent; services, 18.0 percent from 13.2 percent; and miscellaneous items, 4.7 percent from 4.5 percent. Inflation rate a year ago (July 2007) was at 2.1 percent. Among the regions, the biggest acceleration of 5.8 percentage points was noted in Eastern Visayas (20.0% from 14.2%) followed by Zamboanga Peninsula (20.3% from 16.3%) at 4.0 percentage points.
