The region consists of a peninsula which administratively covers three (3) provinces, Zamboanga del Norte, Zamboanga Sibugay and Zamboanga del Sur and the four (5) cities of Dapitan, Dipolog, Isabela, Pagadian and Zamboanga. The current politico-administrative organization includes the five (5) cities and three (3) provinces, broken down to 67 municipalities and 1,903 barangays.
