Zamboanga Peninsula Inflation Accelerated to 20.3% in July 2008
Among the regions, the biggest acceleration of 5.8 percentage points was noted in Eastern Visayas (20.0% from 14.2%) followed by Zamboanga Peninsula (20.3% from 16.3%) at 4.0 percentage points. (posted August 8, 2008)

Anchored on the strong performance of the AFF sector, the Zamboanga Peninsula’s economy surged from 2.1 percent in 2006 to 7.4 percent in 2007 AFF, which accounted for 49.3 percent of the region’s total economy, rebounded from negative 1.3 percent in 2006 to 7.3 percent in 2007. Press Release: June Inflation Jumps 16.3% in Zamboanga Peninsula
The Zamboanga Peninsula's inflation surged in June 2008 to 16.3 percent from 13.5 percent inflation in May 2008. The commodity group of Food, Beverage, and Tobacco items recorded an inflation of 20.8 percent from 16.7 percent in May, the highest annual inflation rate during the month. The Municipality of Sergio Osmeña Sr. is one of the 25 municipalities comprising the Province of Zamboanga del Norte. She was created by virtue of Republic Act No. 3697 dated September 14, 1963.
The municipality was carved out of the municipality of Piñan. The barangays that originally comprise the new municipality were Sibulan, Dampalan, Labag, princesa Lamaya and Marapong. Barangay Sibulan was the seat of the new municipal government. more....

Inflation leaps to 13.5% in May 2008 Year-on-year headline inflation rate at Zamboanga Peninsula moved upward to 13.5 percent in May 2008 from 8.6 percent in April 2008. This was due to the 16.7 percent rise in the food, beverages and tobacco (FBT) items from 10.3 percent and 11.7 percent rise in services items from 6.4 percent. Zamboanga Peninsula's Agricultural Production Output increased in 2007 In the January to December 2007 situation report of the Bureau of Agricultural Statistics - Regional Operation Center 9, it shows that most of Zamboanga Peninsula's agricultural (palay, corn, fisheries and other crops) production output increased as compared in 2006. click here 5th Mindanao Statistics Congress As an offshoot to the 4th Mindanao Statistical Congress which held last June 2007 in General Santos City, the 5th Mindanao Statistical Congress shall be undertaken in Zamboanga City. The forum shall attempt to gather statisticians and planners of Mindanao to share updates and new ideas that will promote the efficient use of statistics as a development tool. Moreover, the conduct of the Mindanao Statistical Congress will be a step towards promoting, enhancing and instilling wide awareness and appreciation of the importance and value that statistics provide to the different sectors of our society, while at the same time ensuring the support of the public at large in improving and enhancing the quality and standard of statistics in the country. Thus the crucial role of statistics in the area-wide development must be given due recognition and importance. The Mindanao Congress shall be a 2-day affair which shall be undertaken in collaboration with various agencies which are members of the Regional Statistical Coordination Committee, the Philippine Statistical Association-Zamboanga City Chapter and the academe.
