APAC Customer Services, Inc. (APAC), the newest client service center in Leyte, is ramping up for 1,000 seats by end of 2009. At full capacity, the company can accommodate approximately 1,000 customer service representatives and shared services staff.

APAC is recognized as an industry leader in business process outsourcing (BPO)/call center management. It opened its site at the Leyte Academic Center in Palo, Leyte last January 2009, and started to train the first wave of customer service representatives (CSR) and shared services staff. The company has considered investing in the province on account of its high literacy rate, wealth of talents and presence of various universities in the region. (Full Text)

Increase in EV's School Participation Rate seen in SY 2008-2009

Latest data from the Department of Education (DepEd) Regional Office VIII show an increase of 0.7 percentage point and 1.5 percentage points in participation rate or net enrolment ratio (NER)¹ in public elementary and secondary schools in the region, respectively for SY 2008-2009.

The slight increase in participation rate at the elementary level is notable considering that it is the first increase in the past five years. (Full Text)

BAS Conducts Capacity Building Program on Fisheries Data Systems

BAS Training The Bureau of Agricultural Statistics (BAS) successfully conducted its Capacity Building Program on Fisheries Data Systems for Visayas Area last May 12-14, 2009 at Visayas State University, Baybay, Leyte. The activity was aimed at improving data on fisheries, a major sector of the regional economies in the Visayas.

A total of fifty-four (54) participants joined the training, composed of the Regional Agricultural Statistics Officers (RASO), Provincial Agricultural Statistics Officers (PASO), and Point Persons on Fisheries coming from BAS offices in Regions VI, VII and VIII.

Topics discussed by BAS and BFAR resource persons include: (1) Commercial Fisheries Data Systems and Use of Survey Forms by Cynthia C. Vallesteros; (2) Municipal Fisheries Data Systems and Use of Survey Forms by Estela C. De Ocampo; (Full Text)
