Standards and
Classification Systems

One of the functions of the NSCB is to prescribe uniform standards and classification systems in government statistics. In pursuance of this function, the NSCB continually develops and maintains statistical standards and classification systems for adoption by government agencies.

At present there are six (6) statistical classification systems that have been developed and prescribed by the NSCB for adoption:

  • NEW !!!  Philippine Standard Classification of Education (PSCEd)
    a detailed classification of all educational levels in the Philippine Educational System.
  • Philippine Standard Commodity Classification (PSCC)
    a detailed classification of all commodities that enter the Philippine trade
  • Philippine Standard Occupational Classification (PSOC)
    a classification of the different occupations of the working population, including the military workforce of the country
  • Philippine Classification of Commodities by Broad Economic Categories (PCCBEC)
    a classification of commodities into meaningful aggregates suitable for end-use analysis
  • Philippine Standard Geographic Classification (PSGC)
    a classification and coding of the geographical-political subdivisions of the country, such as the region, the province, the municipality/city and the barangay
  • Philippine Standard Industrial Classification (PSIC)
    a classification of all economic activities obtaining in the country

These standard classification systems are being updated and revised periodically by the NSCB to reflect socio-economic developments in the country.
