ABOUT US

The National Statistical Coordination Board (NSCB) was created under Executive Order No. 121 issued on January 30, 1987 as the highest policy-making and coordinating agency on statistical matters in the Philippine Government.

The major goal of the NSCB is to promote the

INDEPENDENCE
INTEGRITY
OBJECTIVITY
RESPONSIVENESS
RELEVANCE

of the Philippine Statistical System (PSS).

Powers and Functions

The powers and functions of the NSCB are defined in Section 5 of EO 121, which are the following:

• Promote and maintain an efficient statistical system in the government
• Develop, prescribe, and maintain statistical frameworks
• Formulate policies on government statistical operations
• Set statistical standards and classification systems
• Delineates statistical responsibilities among government agencies
• Establish appropriate mechanisms for subnational statistical coordination

  Structure and Composition

  At the helm of the NSCB is a policy-making board composed of representatives from the following agencies:

  	Chairman	Director General National Economic Development Authority
  	Vice Chairman Members	Undersecretary Department of Budget and Management Undersecretaries of the:
  		Department of Agriculture Department of Labor and Employment Department of Education, Culture and Sports Department of Environment and Natural Resources Department of Public Works and Highways Department of Energy Department of Transportation and Communications Department of Health Department of Social Welfare and Development Department of Tourism Department of Trade and Industry Department of Agrarian Reform Department of Science and Technology Department of Agriculture Deputy Governor, Central Bank of the Philippines Secretary General, National Statistical Coordination Board Administrator, National Statistics Office Executive Director, Statistical Research and Training Center Governor or Mayor nominated by the League of Governors   and City Mayors Private Sector representative

The NSCB Technical Staff

The NSCB has a technical staff which performs the following functions:

• Provide technical and secretariat support to the NSCB;
• Serve as the statistical clearing house and liaison for international statistical matters; and,
• Perform other functions as may be assigned by the NSCB Executive Board, and as may be necessary to carry out the purposes of EO 121.

The Technical Staff is headed by the Secretary General, with the rank of undersecretary, and assisted by an Assistant Secretary General.
