Eastern Visayas Celebrates Women’s Month

Eastern Visayas will be celebrating the National Women’s Month this March with the theme, “CEDAW ng Bayan: Kabuhayan ng Kababaihan”, focusing on women’s economic empowerment.  The celebration will have as its kick-off activity, a Women’s Day Program on March 8, 1:30-5:00 P.M., at RDC Conference Room, NEDA RO8, which is simultaneous with the national celebration to be held at Ninoy Aquino Stadium, Metro Manila.   

Highlights of the Program include Presentation of GAD Best Practices, Awarding of Recognition to Women Achievers, and the Launching of GAD Webpage.  The best practices are: (1) Program on GAD of Capoocan (Gawad Galing Pook Awardee, 2005 and Special Citation on Gender-Responsive Governance) by Hon. Marietta H. Porciuncula, Municipal Mayor of Capoocan, Leyte; (2) GAD Mainstreaming in RSDF’s Programs and Projects by Dir. Paulina L. Nayra, Executive Director of Runggiyan Social Development  Foundation, Inc.; and (3) Manobo Upland Farming (Magsasaka-Siyentista, Techno Gabay Program of DENR) by Ms. Divina B. Padecio, Chieftain of Integrated Manobo Tribal Association.    

The Women’s Day Program is being spearheaded by the Regional Gender and Development Committee (RGADC) and will be participated in by GAD Focal Points and Coordinators of various NGAs, LGUs, and the private sector.   

The RGADC is Chaired by Prof. Jocelyn F. Cañas, Convenor of RGADC-UP Kadayao Trainers’ Pool, and Co-Chaired by Ms. Evangeline M. Paran, Regional Head of NSCB.
