RSCC VIII Advocates Creation of LGU Statistician Positions

The Regional Statistical Coordination Committee (RSCC) of Region VIII advocated the creation of plantilla/statistical positions in LGUs during its Second Regular Meeting held last August 26, 2008 at NEDA Regional Office. 

An Advocacy Paper was presented to the body by the Provincial Planning and Development Coordinator (PPDC) of Eastern Samar on Improving LGU Capacity for Statistical Data Generation, in the light of the increasing demand for local-level statistics and in the absence of statistical units/positions in LGUs.  It was then resolved that the paper will be endorsed to the Regional Development Council (RDC) for stronger advocacy.  

To address the need for projected population data for use by local planners, the body also agreed that the National Statistics Office will be requested to prepare a five-year provincial/city/municipal population projections (2008-2012) based on the 2007 Census of Population results by end of September 2008.   

Moreover, the RSCC has also created an Ad Hoc Committee which is tasked to prepare a proposal to conduct poverty analysis in response to the need of the RDC for deeper analysis of the worsening poverty situation in the region.    

Other agenda items discussed during the meeting include: (1) 2007 Population Census Results, (2) 2007 GRDP Estimates, (3) 19^th NSM Celebration, (4) TWG on Housing Statistics Status Report, and (5) Official Concepts and Definitions for the Population and ICT Sectors.
