TWG Formulates Disaster Management Indicator System for Eastern Visayas

 
Twenty members of the Technical Working Group on Disaster Statistics participated in the formulation of the Disaster Management Indicator System for Eastern Visayas during a workshop held last May 23, 2007 at the Department of Public Works and Highways Multi-Purpose Center. The TWG also discussed strategies on how to gather disaster statistics from source agencies.

 The workshop was graced by DPWH Regional Director Jaime A. Pacanan, Assistant Regional Director Romualdo M. Baltazar and OCD Regional Director Salvador G. Estudillo, the TWG Chair.

 Ms. Virginia C. Mabute, Division Chief of NEDA, presented the Hyogo Framework: Building Resilience of Nations and Communities to Disasters as input to the workshop.  This is an international framework which outlines priorities for action towards substantial reduction of disaster losses of communities and countries.

 The workshop, which was hosted by DPWH, is the fourth of a series of activities conducted by the TWG since its creation on November 30, 2006 by the Regional Statistical Coordination Committee (RSCC).  The NSCB, as TWG secretariat, facilitated the workshop.
