RTWPB Monitors Regional Wage
Situation
The
Regional Tripartite Wages and Productivity Board (RTWPB) of Eastern Visayas, the
key policy making body on wages, income and productivity, is currently
monitoring and reviewing the wage situation of the region amidst the soaring
prices of rice, fuel and other basic commodities.
The
Board convened last April 14, 2008 at DOLE Regional Office No. 8 to discuss the
region’s current economic indicators: consumer price index, inflation rate,
purchasing power of the peso and fuel prices.
The
Board Secretary, Mr. Florencio C. Aguilos, Jr., said that they still have to
assess other factors that would necessitate a wage hike.
The Board granted its most recent minimum wage increase last December 16,
2007 at P228.00 per day. To this
date, the Board has not yet received petitions for wage increases from the labor
sector.
The
RTWPB is composed of the DOLE Regional Director as Chair, NEDA and DTI Regional
Directors as Vice-Chairs, and two representatives each from the worker and
employer sectors. The Secretariat
has scheduled its next Board Meeting on April 28.
