Region 8 Bags 13th PSQ Championship
Region 8 won for the first time this year’s Philippine Statistics Quiz (PSQ). Jane Lois de Veyra, a first year BS Computer Science student of the University of the Philippines in Tacloban City brought home the first ever championship trophy as she bested 16 other regional contestants in the national competition held last December 7, 2004 in Manila. She was coached by her Statistics Professor, Engr. Roberto Capon. Ms. de Veyra already showed her potential of being a winner during the Regional Championship as she won over 20 representatives from different provinces in the region. The contest was held at NEDA last Nov 17, 2004. The PSQ, which started in 1992, is an annual contest designed to test first-year college students’ knowledge on statistics. It aims to instill the value of statistics among students and to measure the effectiveness of the high school statistics curriculum. The 13th PSQ was conducted nationwide involving freshmen students enrolled in various colleges and universities in 17 regions.
