OTOP and MSMEs Featured in NSM Closing Ceremonies

NSM Closing CeremoniesThe 19th National Statistics Month (NSM) celebration in Eastern Visayas formally culminated last October 27, 2008 with a Closing Ceremonies featuring One Town-One Product (OTOP) and Micro, Small, and Medium Enterprises (MSME).   

Highlights of the program were presentations on the OTOP Profile of Eastern Visayas by Mr. Pedro Bimbo B. Tan, Regional OTOP Coordinator of DTI and the MSME Data Updates for Eastern Visayas by Ms. Ma. Delia M. Corsiga, Chief, Industry Development Division of DTI.  Ms. Corsiga reported that there is still insufficient data to support MSMEs in the region and hoped that this can be addressed in the future by concerned agencies.   The 19th NSM celebration was anchored on the theme, “Demand-Driven Statistics: Key to Micro, Small, and Medium Enterprise (MSME) Development”.   

Ms. Evangeline M. Paran, Regional Head of NSCB, presented the 19th NSM Celebration in Eastern Visayas at a Glance, a documentation of the activities conducted by various agencies during the month-long celebration. 

The program was capped by the awarding of NSM Tokens of Appreciation to agencies and institutions who conducted major activities in support of the 19th NSM celebration.  RSCC Co-Chair and NSO Regional Director, Raul F. Dones, was assisted by Ms. Evangeline M. Paran in awarding the tokens to LCCI, DTI, BSP, NSCB, NSO, VSU, EVSU, PIA and LSDE.       

Around 60 participants coming from the regional line agencies, academe, private sector and LGUs witnessed the event.  The Closing Ceremonies was hosted by the DTI Regional Office and sponsored by the Bangko Sentral ng Pilipinas. 

The Regional Statistical Coordination Committee (RSCC), through the NSCB as its secretariat, spearheaded the NSM celebration in the region.
