BAS Conducts Capacity Building Program
on Fisheries Data Systems

             The Bureau of Agricultural Statistics (BAS) successfully conducted its Capacity Building Program on Fisheries Data Systems for Visayas Area last May 12-14, 2009 at Visayas State University, Baybay, Leyte. The activity was aimed at improving data on fisheries, a major sector of the regional economies in the Visayas.

              A total of fifty-four (54) participants joined the training, composed of the Regional Agricultural Statistics Officers (RASO), Provincial Agricultural Statistics Officers (PASO), and Point Persons on Fisheries coming from BAS offices in Regions VI, VII and VIII. 

            Topics discussed by BAS and BFAR resource persons include: (1) Commercial Fisheries Data Systems and Use of Survey Forms by Cynthia C. Vallesteros; (2) Municipal Fisheries Data Systems and Use of Survey Forms by Estela C. De Ocampo; (3) Identification of Fish Species by Grace V. Lopez; (4) Aquaculture Data Systems by Crisanto F. Castillo; (5) Commonly Used Fishing Gears by Fileonor Eleserio; (6) Fisheries Data Processing and Data Review by Reinelda P. Adriano; and (7) Fisheries Data Holdings by Cynthia C. Vallesteros.

            The training was effectively hosted by BAS Region VIII. It was also graced by Director Romeo S. Recide, the highest official of BAS.
