EV Celebrates 16th National Statistics Month

Pursuant to Presidential Proclamation No. 647 declaring the month of October of every year as the National Statistics Month (NSM), Eastern Visayas, together with all other regions in the country, will be celebrating the 16th National Statistics Month.

This year’s celebration is anchored on the theme, “Modernizing Agriculture and Fishery Through Quality Statistics”.  The theme highlights the critical role of quality statistics in the identification, design and implementation of appropriate programs and projects for modernizing the agriculture and fishery sectors of the country.  It also supports the continued improvement of the Philippine Agricultural Statistical System.

A simultaneous Opening Ceremony will be conducted nationwide on October 3 to officially launch the 16th NSM.  In Eastern Visayas, the Opening Ceremony will be held at the Eastern Visayas State University (EVSU), Tacloban City at 8:30-11:30 in the morning, hosted by the Department of Agriculture and the Bureau of Agricultural Statistics.  The program will include presentations on the GMA Rice Program, Supply Chain Approach, Eastern Visayas Mariculture Project, and the 2002 Census of Agriculture and Fishery (CAF) Results, intended to update everyone on the developments and milestones contributing to the growth of the Agriculture and Fishery sector in the region.

Spearheaded by the National Statistical Coordination Board, the event will also give recognition to outstanding participation of government agencies, LGUs, academe and the private sector through the Search for the 16th NSM Best Statistical Activity and NSM Best Province in Eastern Visayas for 2005.  The 16th NSM Best Statistical Activity has three categories:  Best Statistical Exhibit, Best Statistical Advocacy, and Best Statistical Forum

The annual observance of the National Statistics Month aims to promote, enhance, and instill nationwide awareness and appreciation of the importance and value of statistics to the different sectors of society, as well as to elicit the cooperation and support of the public in upgrading the quality and standards of statistics in the country.
