BSP topped them all in the 2011 National Statistics Month (NSM) celebration in Western Visayas. BSP bagged the bacon as “Best 2011 NSM Agency” and as grand slam winner in Statistical Exhibits. Awarding of prizes was done during the Closing Ceremonies of the 2011 NSM on October 28, 2011 held at the Sarabia Manor Hotel, Iloilo City. BSP is a consistent champion in Statistical Exhibits, one of the ‘mainstay” activities of the NSM, for the last three years NSM celebrations, 2011, 2010 and 2009. While the agency will be a non-contesting participating agency in the 2012 Statistical Exhibits being a grand slam winner, however, based on the standing rule of the RSCC for NSM Contests, to wit “…the agency champion in Statistical Exhibits in the current year will Chair the contest in the succeeding year,” BSP will still chair the Committee on Statistical Exhibits next year. Other agency champions in the various contests awarded were: Department of Agriculture (DA) for Best Statistical Bulletin Board; Colegio San Agustin-Bacolod for Statistical Analysis (tertiary schools); and Iloilo Chinese Commercial High School for Statistics Quiz (secondary schools). Three agency winners in each type of contest received cash prizes, citations, and tokens. The first-ever awardees in the Search for Achievers in the Field of Statistics were also recognized during the NSM Closing Ceremonies. Dr. Cherry T. Nepomuceno of the West Visayas State University bagged the award for the Pure Statistics category and Prof. Vicente T. Balinas of the UP in the Visayas, for the Applied Statistics category. The “Best NSM Agency” award is the highest recognition given to an agency, with the highest and quality involvement in the NSM activities. The agencies are rated on the following: diversity of statistical activities undertaken (25%); extent of the agency’s participation and involvement in the NSM activities, both common and in-house (25%); conveying favorable image of the agency by volunteering responsibility in common and special activities (25%); and sharing of resourcefulness and human and facility resources (25%). The ideas, efforts, and resources of more than 65 agencies in Western Visayas pooled together made the successful conduct of the 2011 NSM in the region. |
