The region’s private construction from approved building permits summed up to 3,703 in 2010 showing a 10.77 percent decrease over the 2009, brought about by the 6.18 and 3.31percent drop in residential and non-residential private construction. In terms of floor area, a 21.09 percent increase was noted in 2010 over the previous year. Non-residential construction posted a double digit growth of 48.80 percent accounting 55.32 percent of the regional total floor area. Average cost per square meter of non-residential is on the average of Php7,399.00 per square meter. The province of Negros Occidental had the most number of private constructions with a total of 1,995 accounting for 52.80 percent of the regional total. Following with a large gap are the provinces of Iloilo (896 or 24.20%), Capiz (349 or 9.42%), Aklan (278 or 7.51%), and Antique (211 or 5.69%). Guimaras has the least number with only 14 or less than one percent. |

Combined value for residential and non-residential private construction of the region grew by 5.56 percent in 2010 over the 2009. Value of non-residential surge to 11.17 % (Php3.59 billion), while residential construction grew by only 3.56 percent. Among the six provinces of the region, Antique and Negros Occidental showed a remarkable growth in the value of private construction with 408.03 percent and 59.27 percent, respectively. The significant improvement in the two provinces is fuelled by the non-residential private construction which grew by 400 percent in Antique in 2010 from 63.65 million in 2009 to 318.27 million and 187.32 percent in Negros Occidental.
