         The Department of Natural Resources, Regional Office 6 (DENR RO6) has monitored 734 firms in Western Visayas violating the pollution control requirements set by the Department.  Almost 69 percent of the pollutive firms were found to have an expired Permit to Operate (PO). Out of the total pollutive firms monitored, 71 percent  or 519 firms were found to be air pollutive  and 29 percent  were water pollutive. 

       As a result of the inspection done by the DENR RO, notices of violation of pollution control programs were issued by the DENR RO6 to non-complying firms. For firms operating with expired permit to operate, the DENR likewise issued notices of violation and conducted technical conferences with the firms to resolve the issues and problems. Non-compliance of the requirements after the conferences, the DENR will endorsed to the Pollution Adjudication Board (PAB) for issuance of Cease and Desist Order (CDO)/ order of fine.

       Among the provinces, Iloilo and Negros Occidental had the most number of pollutive firms at 333 and 231 firms respectively.  These two provinces already accounted for almost 76.84 percent of the pollutive firms in the entire region.
