Region VI inflation rate in March 2001
moved up to 5.0%, a noticeable increase of 2.1 percent compared to 2.9 percent
which was registered
during the same month of the previous year.
All provinces registered an
increase in the inflation rate in March 2001
compared to the same period last year. The highest increase was
experienced in Negros Occidental when inflation rate moved up from
1.7% (March 2000) to 4.2% (March 2001) or an increase of 2.5 percentage points.
Meanwhile, the purchasing power of the peso
went down from Php0.70 (March 2000) to PhP0.67 in March 2001.
