Merchandise exports of Western Visayas for the year 2001 declined by 26.2 percent, from a total of US$59,530,557 in the previous year it went down to US$43,944,575 in the year 2001.   

Sugar remained as the top primary export commodity of the region contributing 51.79 percent to the total export of Western Visayas. A notable decrease of  37.1 percent was recorded during the year 2001 from a total of US$22,756,840  as compared to a year ago value of US$ 36,160,730.

Next to sugar, crabs other than frozen, exported to Taiwan, Singapore, Hongkong, Japan, Thailand, Macau and Guam  valued at  US$10,961,628 contributing 24.9 percent to the total export of the region.

Other major export commodities and their share of the total receipts were gold contained in copper ores  (US$4.4 million), can molases (US$3.7 million), copper concentrate (US$528,039), banana chips/crackers (US$367,969), shrimps and prawns (US$358,565), cigarettes containing tobacco (US$102,423), sardines dried (US$53,022), and silver contained (US$48,894). Korea, USA, Taiwan, China, Indonesia, Japan, Hongkong, Singapore, and Guam comprise the market for these goods.
