The forum is envisioned to serve as "clearing house" for statistical concepts, terms, and indicators used in economic accounts, censuses and surveys, labor force surveys, etc. This is part of the continuing efforts of the Philippine Statistical System for its clients and stakeholders in order to attain higher appreciation and satisfaction of its statistical products and services. Specifically, it will address the concern of the media to "laymanize" the definitions of frequently-used statistical terms and indicators, as expressed by them in the July 22 news conference on the 2008 economic performance of Western Visayas.

The National Statistical Coordination Board (NSCB) and National Statistics Office (NSO) spearhead the event, in collaboration with the National Economic and Development Authority (NEDA).

Another "statistical day" has been organized for the media practitioners in the region. A statistical appreciation forum specially designed for the media and Provincial Information Officers will be conducted on 24 November 2009 at Eon Centennial Plaza Hotel, Jalandoni St., Iloilo City.
