The establishment of the satellite National Statistical Information Center (NSIC) in the Province of Capiz is another breakthrough in the region’s local statistical system in particular and the Philippine Statistical System in general. The Provincial Government of Capiz through its PPDO will open to the public the NSIC in Capiz through a blessing and launching ceremonies on December 3, 2009 at 2 o’clock in the afternoon, as one of the highlights in the Sinadya sa Halaran Festival of the province. NSIC in Capiz is the 4th satellite NSIC in the country, following NSIC in Guimaras, NSIC in Negros Occidental, and NSIC in Antique, all in Western Visayas-Region 6. The realization of NSIC in Capiz was made possible by a MOA executed between the Provincial Government of Capiz through Honorable Victor A. Tanco, Governor of Capiz and Dr. Romulo A. Virola, Secretary General of the National Statistical Coordination Board (NSCB). The NSIC is a one-stop shop of statistical data and services. The NSIC concept is envisioned to effectively respond to the day-to-day data needs of the government and the private sector for planning and policy formulation. It also aims to address the problem of planners and decision-makers on the officiality, relevance, and accuracy of the statistics/data and indicators needed. Moreover, it will minimize delay and wastage in the data gathering efforts of the users and researchers, freeing them from the burden of hopping from one agency to the other looking for data, since a variety of statistical products is housed under one roof or in a single location.
