AKLAN GOVERNOR MARQUEZ
AND NSCB SEC. GEN. VIROLA (Posted February 07, 2011)

February 2011 marks another statistical milestone for the Region 6’s statistical system as Aklan Governor Carlito S. Marquez and NSCB Secretary General Dr. Romulo A. Virola ink the MOA for the establishment of the satellite National Statistical Information Center (NSIC) in the Province of Aklan. This is the 5th satellite NSIC in the Philippines, all of which are in Western Visayas. The future satellite NSIC in Aklan is targeted to open for public service on April 2011. It will be housed at the Aklan Provincial Capitol adjoining the office of the Provincial Planning and Development (PPD), a very strategic location accessible to all local government units’ officials, planners and policy makers, both provincial and municipal levels, and researchers of academic institutions and national and provincial offices as well as non-government offices operating in the province. NSIC in Aklan is established to address the long felt need expressed by the planners, statisticians, and researchers of having a single repository of data to save them from hopping from one agency in the province and in other offices in the regional seat looking for data. The realization of the NSIC in Aklan is expected to enhance the level of statistical awareness of the people of Aklan and eventually, a deeper appreciation and understanding of their province’s economic performance and “how much” and in “what sector” of the economy their province has contributed to the country's economic situation. |
