Press Release National Statistics Month in Western Visayas opens October 3 (Posted

On its 22nd year, the National Statistics Month (NSM) celebration with the theme "Quality Social Protection Statistics for Focused Targeting: Improving Outcomes, Changing Lives” officially opened October 3, 2011. The opening ceremonies hosted by the Department of Social Welfare and Development was held at the Iloilo Grand Hotel participated in by 252 registrants from various statistical agencies, LGUs, Academe and partners from the media. Back to back with the opening ceremonies the DSWD also launched the result of the National Household Targeting System for Poverty Reduction. Invited guests were from the LGUs, NGAs & Academe. Though the
opening ceremonies was held on October 3, Contests will be held for the various sectors of society during the month of October: the Statistics Quiz for Secondary and Statistical Analysis for College students; Statistical Exhibits for the agencies; Best Statistical Data Board for Agencies/LGUs/Academe; the Search for Achievers in Statistics and Best 22nd NSM Agency. The NSM is celebrated every year in pursuance of Presidential Proclamation No. 647 "Declaring the Month of October of Every Year as National Statistics Month" issued by President Cory Aquino for the improvement and enhancement of the quality and standards of statistics in the country.
