Poverty Mapping
The NSCB produced poverty maps for
all the provinces of Western Visayas to further serve the needs of local
planners and
policy
makers in out effort to win the war against poverty. This is part of the
Poverty Mapping Study under the Project on Re-engineering the the Government
Statistical Services - Phase II.
Poverty maps make possible the
integration of data from various sources such as surveys and
administrative-based data and from different
disciplines such as social, economic and environmental data. Since different
dimensions of well-being can be examined and integrated, these maps serve as
a very useful tools to local government units as well as local chief
executives, particularly in identifying priority areas that should benefit
from anti-poverty programs and interventions.
Below are the provinces with
available poverty maps:
The indicators used by NSCB in
constructing the maps were based on the Minimum Basic Needs (MBN) Indicators
which have been derived thru inter-agency collaboration. The maps were
generated using the Geographic Information System (GIS) technology.
