Satellite NSIC in Guimaras

NSIC in Region VI, with its desire to reach out to every sector of the society in the delivery of statistical information and services produced by the Philippine Statistical System, is now going down subregional. The first Satellite NSIC in the country is in the island province of Guimaras, which had its blessing ceremonies during the 12^th NSM on October 30, 2001. The blessing ceremonies was attended by the Assistant Secretary General of the National Statistical Coordination Board (NSCB), Ms. Estrella V. Domingo and the

Chief of the Regional Statistical Coordination Committee of the NSCB, Mr. John Frederick P. De Guia.

The NSIC in Guimaras is temporarily lodged at the Kabataan Knowledge Center (KKC) a few meters away from the Provincial Capitol of Guimaras. The Information Center will be transferred soon to the new building near the Provincial Capitol. The Satellite NSIC in Guimaras will be formally launched in May 2003, one of the highlights of the Manggahan festival of the Province.

Publications from the major statistical producing agencies are available for research at the Center. The Satellite NSIC in Guimaras in its more than a year of existence had already served 450 researchers.

StatWatch Board containing the economic and social indicators of the Province of Guimaras is also available at the NSIC. Updating of the StatWatch board is to be done every time the data from the major producing agencies become available.
