Hon.
Victor A. Tanco, Governor of Capiz Province and Dr. Romulo A. Virola,
Secretary General of National
Statistical
Coordination Board (NSCB) inked the Memo of Agreement (MOA) for
establishment of a National Statistical Information Center (NSIC) in the
Province of Capiz. This is the 4th satellite NSIC in the Philippines at
the provincial level. NSIC: Capiz establishment follows that of Antique
(3rd), Negros Occidental (2nd), and Guimaras (1st), all in Western
Visayas.
The need for an
NSIC as one-stop shop for statistical information and services gained
priority attention of the
Provincial Government of Capiz, recognizing the importance of statistics
in the day-to-day planning and decision-making endeavors of planners in
the province. With the birth of NSIC: Capiz, the province also dreams of
documenting and archiving all statistics about Capiz – historical,
cultural, socio-economic, and as eco-tourism hub.
NSIC: Capiz is
foreseen to benefit the entire statistical community - planners, workers,
professionals, students, and other interest groups in the Province –
saving and easing them the burden of hopping from one agency to the other
looking for data. Initially, the following services and facilities
will be offered: (1) a Statistical Library, containing collection of
publications and reference materials on various statistical concerns; (2)
Technical Inquiry Services, where clients can forward their statistical
inquiries via phone, fax, and email; (3) a Bookshoppe where
statistical
publications of agencies will be displayed for sale; and (4) Frontline
Services, where staff-on-duty will assist researchers to locate needed
data in the library and/or make proper referral to the Regional NSIC or to
agency data producers.
The
Provincial Government of Capiz through its PPDO and the NSCB through its
Regional Division 6 closely coordinate with each other in preparation for
the launching of NSIC: Capiz tentatively scheduled in May 2009. NSIC:
Capiz will be located in the compound of Villareal Stadium in Roxas City,
fronting Capiz State University (CapSU) and with proximity to La Salle
University-Capiz, St. Anthony’s College of Nursing, and Capiz High School.
