The 3rd Satellite Provincial Statistical Information Center in the Philippines Opens in Antique |

Provincial National Statistical Information Center (NSIC) in Antique on
April 26, 2007. This is the third provincial statistical information center
in the country, which aims to disseminate statistical information to
planners, policy makers, and researchers in the government and private
sector. At present, there are 11 NSIC located strategically – one for NCR,
and in Regions 1, 4, 5, 6, 8, 9, 10, 11, 12, and CAR. These NSICs are
operating at the regional level. The NSIC is a one-stop shop where data users can access statistical data and services generated by national government agencies, local government units, and the private sector. Initially, it offers the following services and facilities: (1) Statistical Inquiry Service thru telephone, fax, and email; (2) a Library which contains a collection of 
statistical publications and reference materials on various concerns; (3) a
Bookshoppe where copies of statistical publications of government agencies
can be ordered and purchased; and (4) technical assistance. The NSIC in
Antique shall formulate other strategies to improve the accessibility of
government statistics and its utilization for development planning in the
province. Antique is one of the six provinces in Western Visayas Region, with a population of 471,088 (as of May 1, 2000) and land area of 2,522.01 sq km. It has 18 municipalities and 590 barangays.  The
launching will be one of the major activities of the province which will be
happening during the Binirayan Festival on April 23-26. The event will be
attended by Antique Governor Salvacion Z. Perez, NSCB Secretary General
Romulo A. Virola, Asst. Secretary General Estrella V. Domingo, Director
Candido Astrologo, Jr., Officials of different government agencies, LGUs,
and representatives from NGOs, academe and private sector. The NSIC Antique is housed at AID Center, San Jose de Buenavista, Antique.
