Coal in Bulk remains to be the top export commodity of Western Visayas?

For the past three years (2011-2013), the total export of Western Visayas continued to increase, from 3.0 million MT in 2011 to 3.4 million MT in 2012 posting an increment of 14.0 percent. In 2013, an increase of 9.4 percent was recorded having a total export of 3.7 million MT. Among the commodities, Coal in Bulk remained to be the top export commodity of Western Visayas region accounting for 80.5 percent in 2011, 93.7 percent in 2012 and in 2013, it accounted for 92.8 percent of the total export of the region. The major export destinations in 2013 were China (85.7%), Thailand (11.1%) and India (3.2%).

25th National Statistics Month in Western Visayas Opens October 3, 2014

The National Statistics Month (NSM) celebration in western Visayas will be opened on October 3, 2014. The 1st National Statistician of the Philippine Statistics Authority (PSA). Dr. Lisa Grace S. Bersales will grace the occasion. This year's NSM on its 25th anniversary carries the theme "NSM at 25 and Beyond: Solid and Responsive Statistical System in Support of Globalization and Regional Economic Integration."  

 

Western Visayas’ economy slows down as AHFF slumps

The economy of Western Visayas slowed down from 7.7 percent growth in 2012 to 4.1 percent growth in 2013. This was largely attributed to the slump in the AHFF and the slower growth of the Industry and the Service sectors.

Services accounted for the largest share of the region’s economy at 57.9 percent, followed by the AHFF at 23.5 percent and the Industry at 18.6 percent in 2013. The percentage share of the Services and Industry to the total output of the region increased while AHFF’s share decreased.

Through its campaign slogan “Experienced Western Visayas First”, the Department of Tourism continue to encourage visitors and travellers to explore more destinations and other undiscovered treasures of Western Visayas. As a positive outcome, the tourist arrivals of Western Visayas soared to 3.6 million (3,565,929) in 2013 from its 3.1million in 2012.
