| Stat News UNEMPLOYMENT RATE DIPS TO 5.3 PERCENT IN OCTOBER Unemployment rate in the Bicol Region improved to 5.3 percent in the third quarter of 2011 based on the results of the October 2011 round of the Labor Force Survey conducted by the National Statistics Office. Employment rate was 0.5 percentage point higher than the rate registered in the same period last year. Total population 15 years old and over reached an estimated 3.44 million persons in October, roughly 5.5 percent of the national total. Across regions, Autonomous Region in Muslim Mindanao (ARMM) registered the highest employment rate at 97.7 percent while the National Capital Region (NCR) recorded the lowest employment rate at 89.6 percent. |

The labor force participation rate or the proportion of those in the labor force to the population aged 15 years old and over went up by 3.5 percentage points from 63.7 in October 2010. Underemployment rate in the Bicol Region remained the highest among regions in the country, swelling by 0.9 percentage point from its level the same period last year. Underemployment rate is the proportion of employed persons wanting more hours of work to total employed persons.
