LIST OF TOP PERFORMING PROVINCES
RELEASED BY NSCB

The Philippine Countryside in FiguresThe National Statistical Coordination Board announces the release of its publication, The Philippine Countryside in Figures.

This annual publication features the following:

  • subnational data/indicators on governance, family income and expenditures, labor and employment, prices, agriculture, health, education, infrastructure, tourism, public order, safety and justice of all 79 provinces and selected cities nationwide;

  • ranking of the provinces/cities according to these indicators, thus comparing their performance in different areas of interest;

  • top ten provinces based on the ranking;

  • thematic maps based on the data using GIS technology;

  • complete list of governors and mayors

In this edition for instance, the top provinces in terms of total financial resources generated in million pesos for the year 2001 are the following:

Included in the latest edition, are additional chapters on finance and communication which contain indicators on number of banks, total deposits, number of pawnshops, subscribed and installed telephone lines and telephone density. Also added are data on human development index, poverty incidence, underemployment, children (9-11 and 12-59 months) given Vitamin A, number of barangay health stations, percent of BHSs to total barangays, pregnant/lactating married women recipients of iodine supplement and tetanus toxoid injection, number of public and private elementary and secondary schools and number of index and non-index crimes.

These data are useful tools in the conduct of feasibility studies, strategic planning, and policy decision-making for the countryside.
