WHEREAS, one of the Millennium Development Goals is to develop a global partnership for development, among the approved indicators for which include telephone lines and cellular phone subscribers per 100 population, personal computers in use per 100 population and internet users per 100 population;

WHEREAS, baseline data at lower geographic disaggregation for these indicators are currently not available and are not generated by any government agency;

WHEREAS, recognizing the importance of technology in the lives of people today, there is a need to generate these and other information technology-related data for planning, monitoring, evaluation and decision-making of the government and the private sector;

NOW THEREFORE, on motion duly seconded, be it:

RESOLVED, AS IT IS HEREBY RESOLVED, that the RSCC request the National Statistics Office (NSO) for the information on landline and cellular phone subscribers, number of personal computers in use, number of internet users and other information technology-related data to be included in their censuses of population;

RESOLVED FINALLY, that copies of this resolution be furnished the NSO Central Office through the NSO Regional Office, for consideration;
