Women and Men in Bicol
Region
Social Welfare
The government
social welfare programs are focused on the marginalized sectors of society.
Through the Department of Social Welfare and Development (DSWD), these
programs seek to care for, protect, and rehabilitate disadvantaged groups
such as women and children in especially difficult circumstances. Such
programs are geared towards bringing problem groups back to the mainstream
of society by resolving problems and restoring clients to normal functioning
and regaining their self worth and dignity. These are done through
protective and rehabilitative services such as provision of shelter, medical
services, psycho-social interventions, self-enhancement and skills training
and stress reduction activities.
In Bicol Region,
women and children constitute the majority of individual clients served
through the DSWD.
