Women and Men in Bicol
Region
Public Order and Safety
Peace and order are
concerns shared by each and every individual. A peaceful environment is
conducive to economic growth and optimum productivity. The traditional role
of women along this area has been generally passive. The recent decade
however has seen greater involvement of women in peace keeping and public
order.
In the Bicol
Region, more and more women are joining the police force and fire fighting
personnel. Although the top echelons of the agencies involved in this work
are still dominated by men, the competitiveness of women peace and safety
officers is slowly being recognized.
Data for this
chapter were generated from the Philippine National Police, the Bureau of
Fire Protection and the Bureau of Jail Management and Penology.
