Did you know that . . .

in 1998, the DSWD served an average of 24 families daily in Region V?

A total of 8,632 socially disadvantaged families were served by the Department of Social Welfare and Development (DSWD) in Region V in 1998. On a daily basis, this translates to about 24 families served during the period under review. Meanwhile, the region accounted for about 3.0 percent of the total number of families served by the department nationwide which was recorded at 284,333.

Both at the national and regional level, the number of women served by DSWD was the highest among individual clients. Other clients included children (922), youths (778), senior citizens (421) and persons with disability (123). They were served through service centers scattered across the region such as: the Lingap Center in Naga City; Children's Home for Girls in Sorsogon; Reception and Study Center for Children in Ligao, Albay; Crisis Intervention Unit in Legazpi City; and the Productivity Skills Capability Building for Disadvantaged Women in Legazpi City, Irosin, Sorsogon and Virac, Catanduanes.
  

Institutional clients included LGUs, NGOs and POs. In 1998, the DSWD-5 served more POs than LGUs and NGOs in the entire region. The POs and LGUs served reached a total of 201 and 191 clients, respectively, which is close to 300 percent higher than the number of NGOs served with 48 clients.

For the entire country, however, the number of LGUs (6,765) served outnumbered the NGOs (685) by 887.6 percent and POs (6,189) by 9.3 percent.
