Transportation

The pressure of urbanization in Virac is visibly manifested in the traffic build-up evident along the Virac Public Market and educational institutions. Total road network spans 170.8 kilometers with a density of 3kms/1000 population. The major means of transportation are motorcycles and tricycles. Ferry boats from Tabaco City in Albay bring passengers and goods to Virac on a daily basis. Philippine Airlines flies to and from Manila on a daily basis while Asian Spirit flies on Wednesdays, Fridays and Sundays.

Telecommunications

Virac enjoys a preponderance of varied communication system from telegraph to landline and mobile phones. The operation of the Catanduanes Network (CATNET) heralded the capital town's entry into the information superhighway using underground fiber optic cables linking computers in selected government offices to the Internet Service Provider. Digitel Internet service uses landline connections resulting in the establishments of computer shops and cafes offering internet services. Home cable service providers are the RMA and Tri-Ex while courier services include JRS, LBC and Air 21. Virac and surrounding towns are covered by CMTS providers, Smart, Mobiline and Globe Telecom. Telephone companies offering IDD and NDD calls are PLDT, Digitel and Bayantel.

Education

Virac has 45 elementary schools, 10 secondary schools 2 tertiary schools and 3 technical/vocational schools. Education takes a front seat among Virac households as evidenced by a high literacy rate of 98.8 percent of the population.

Medical Facilities

There are 3 hospitals, 15 medical clinics, 5 eye centers and 6 dental clinics serving the municipality of Virac. Health services are also provided by the rural health center.

Power and Electricity

Apparently, energization is no longer a major problem of Virac with all the 63 barangays having access to electricity. Electricity is distributed by the First Catanduanes Electric Cooperative (FICELCO).
