Demography

Donsol  is composed of 51 barangays, 9 of which are in the poblacion area, 33 in the interior area and 9 barangays in the coastal side. Population growth of the municipality declined for the past four years due to the migration of the people of Donsol outside the country and to different cities and municipalities, notably Legazpi City and Metro Manila, to seek greener pastures and job opportunities.

The 1-19 age group was the biggest  in the municipality accounting for  49 percent of the total population while population in 20-64 years old age bracket made up 40 percent. Elderly persons 65 years old and over made up  8.5 percent of the population and infants (under 1 year old) composed the remaining 2.5 percent.

Bikol Miraya, the dialect predominant in the 3rd District of Albay is also spoken by 98 percent of households in the municipality. English, Tagalog, Bisaya and Ilocano are spoken and understood by 85 percent of the population.

Roman Catholic is the dominant religion followed by Iglesia Ni Cristo. The Church of the Latter-Day Saints (Mormons), Jehovah's Witnesses, Church of God and other religions are also existent and have followers in the municipality.
