Municipal Profile - Donsol, Sorsogon
Agriculture

The dominant land use of the municipality is for agriculture which covers an area of about 9,401 hectares or around 65.49 percent of the total land area. Most of the area is hilly and mountainous, valley or flat surface is minimal thus coconut production is dominant than rice production. But almost 70 percent of agricultural land devoted to rice production is unirrigated. Coconut byproducts are coconut oil, charcoal and coco lumber. Yellow and sweet corn are also planted by some upland farmers while cassava and camote serve as an alternative to rice. Banana production is minimal, fruits and vegetables are mainly imported from Legazpi City and the municipality of Daraga.

Livestock

Backyard raising is commonly used in livestock production of hogs and chicken. Carabao and cattle are raised to be used by farmers in farm work.

Fisheries

fishingFishing is one of the major sources of income of the residents of Donsol particularly those residing in the coastal areas. But due to some illegal activities in the coastal waters of the municipality, fish production is not sufficient to meet the needs of the families dependent on the fishing industry. Scarcity of quality species of marine products has also been observed. Tilapia, prawn and mud crabs are also cultured and cultivated in fishponds within the municipality.
