Glossary of Terms
Transportation and Communication

Aircraft Movement – an aircraft take-off or landing at an airport. For airport traffic purposes, one arrival and one departure are counted as two movements. (Glossary of Terms in Statistics 1985, National Economic and Development Authority)

Airport Traffic – this term is used to indicate one or both of the following: 1) aircraft movements; 2) passengers, freight and mail departing; and 3) transiting or arriving at airports. (Glossary of Terms in Statistics 1985, National Economic and Development Authority)

Available Seat Kilometers – a measure of airline output which is obtained by multiplying the number of seats available in a flight by the distance over which the seats are flown. (Philippine Airlines)

Bridge – a structure across a waterway or other opening servicing as a pathway and/or roadway with a minimum clear span of six (6) meters. (Glossary of Terms in Statistics 1985, National Economic and Development Authority)

Freight – the price paid to a ship owner for the transportation of goods or merchandise by sea from one specific port to another. The word "freight" is also used to denote goods which are in the process of being transported from one place to another. License – an authority issued by the Land Transportation Office (LTO) to a person who is qualified to operate a vehicle. (Glossary of Terms in Statistics 1985, National Economic and Development Authority)

Mail – dispatches of correspondence and other objects tendered by and intended for delivery by means of the postal service. (Glossary of Terms in Statistics 1985, National Economic and Development Authority)
  

Mail Carrier – refers to the person employed to deliver mail. (Glossary of Terms in Statistics 1985, National Economic and Development Authority)

Mails Delivered – mails distributed in the locality through letter carriers through the use of post office (P.O.) boxes. (Glossary of Terms in Statistics 1985, National Economic and Development Authority)

Mails Posted – mails received from windows, counters, lobby drop boxes and street boxes. (Glossary of Terms in Statistics 1985, National Economic and Development Authority)

Port – a sheltered harbor where marine terminal facilities are provided, consisting of piers or wharves at which ships berth/dock while loading or unloading cargo, transit sheds and other storage areas where ships may discharge incoming cargo, and warehouses where goods may be stored for longer periods while awaiting distribution or sailing. Port of Entry – designated location where foreign goods and foreign citizens may be cleared through a custom house. (Glossary of Terms in Statistics 1985, National Economic and Development Authority)

Radio Stations – one or more transmitters or receivers or a combination of transmitters and receivers including the accessory equipment, necessary at one location for carrying on a radio communication service. (Glossary of Terms in Statistics 1985, National Economic and Development Authority)

Revenue Passengers Carried – passenger paying more than 25% of the applicable fare. (Philippine Airlines)

Revenue Passengers Kilometers – a measure of passengers sales volume which can be obtained by multiplying the number of revenue passengers carried on a flight by the distance traveled by each passenger. (Philippine Airlines)

Scheduled Kilometers - the sum of the direct airport to airport distances of all flights scheduled to be performed during the period over certificated routes in pursuance of published traffic schedules. (Philippine Airlines)

Scheduled Kilometers Flown – the sum of the direct airport to airport distances of all scheduled flights actually flown during the period. (Philippine Airlines)

Telephone Density – the ratio of the number of telephones to total population at a given date. It is expressed as the number of telephone main stations per 100 persons. (Department of Transportation and Communications)

Total Kilometers Flown – sum of total non-revenue kilometers flown and total revenue kilometers flown. (Philippine Airlines)

Total Non-Revenue Kilometers Flown – the sum of the airport-to-airport distances of all flights performed for technical and non-technical, non revenue operations such as trainings of pilots, test hops, probing, utility and ferry flights. It includes the estimated distances flown by aborted flights. (Philippine Airlines)

Total Revenue Cargo Carried – the total weight in kilometers of freight carried on a given sector or service. (Philippine Airlines)

Total Revenue Kilometers Flown – the sum of direct airport-to-airport distance of all revenue flights performed during the period. Scheduled flights, extra section, charter flights and relief are considered revenue flights. (Philippine Airlines)

Total Revenue Ton Kilometers – the sum total of passenger ton kilometers, freight ton kilometers, excess baggage ton kilometers, and mail ton flight. Revenue loads carried on a charter flights are not considered. (Philippine Airlines)

Transit Passengers – air travelers coming from different port of departures who stay at the airport for brief periods, usually one hour, with the intention of proceeding to their first port of destination. (Glossary of Terms in Statistics 1985, National Economic and Development Authority) 

Vessel – includes any ship or boat or any description of a vessel or boat, or any artificial contivance used or capable of being used as a means of transportation on water. (Glossary of Terms in Statistics 1985, National Economic and Development Authority)
