Definition of Terms

Labor Force or Economically Active Population - population 15 years old and over who are either employed or unemployed.

Labor Force Participation Rate - the ratio of the number of persons in the labor force to total population 15 years old and over.

Employment Rate - the proportion of total employed to total labor force.

Unemployment Rate - the proportion of total unemployed to total labor force.

Visible Underemployment Rate - the ratio of the number of persons who worked less than 40 hours a week and wanting more hours of work to total number of employed persons.
