MASBATE HAD THE HIGHEST POPULATION
GROWTH RATE IN 2010 IN BICOL REGION?

Bicol Region’s population stood at 5,420,411 as of May 1, 2010 or 733,742 more compared to the region’s population ten years ago. This is based on the results of the 2010 Census of Population and Housing conducted by the National Statistics Office (NSO), which was declared official by His Excellency President Benigno S. Aquino by virtue of Proclamation No. 362 on  March 30,

APRIL INFLATION SWELLS TO 3.0 PERCENT

The rate of increase in consumer prices in the Bicol Region accelerated in April, posting a 0.3 percentage point rise from 2.7 percent the previous month. The year-on-year change stood at 3.0 percent, the same level as the national average. Higher inflation rates for most of the commodity groups resulted to the current level of inflation. Across regions, Region I (Ilocos) recorded the lowest inflation at 1.2 percent whereas Regions III (Central Luzon) and XIII (Caraga) registered the highest at 4.3 percent each respectively.

BICOL'S JOBLESS RATE IS AT 6.8 PERCENT IN JANUARY

More Bicolanos were employed in January, as unemployment rate slipped to 6.8 percent, 0.3 percentage point lower than the rate registered in the same period the previous year. This was the result of the latest round of the Labor Force Survey conducted by the National Statistics Office. Consequently, employment rate improved to 93.2 percent from 92.9 percent the past year.

More women are pursuing higher
education than men IN BICOL REGION

Close to 57 percent of the total number of enrolees in tertiary education in SY 2011-2012 were women. Women dominated tertiary school enrolment in all schools divisions in the region.
