BICOL REGION’S ECONOMY GROWS BY 8.2%
IN 2009, THE FASTEST IN THE COUNTRY

Bicol Region’s economy grew by 8.2 percent in 2009, twice its pace in 2008 and much faster than the 1.1 percent growth at the national level. The Industry sector remained

the strongest performer with an 18.3 percent expansion.  Bicol Region topped all other regions in the country in terms of growth.

JULY INFLATION DIPS TO A 9-MONTH LOW 
Bicol Region's annual inflation rate continued its decline in July, shedding off 0.3 percentage point from 4.2 percent in June this year. The year-on-year change was placed at 3.9 percent, the lowest since October 2009. This month's level is the same as the national average. Across regions, ARMM registered the highest inflation at 5.5 percent while Regions VI (Western Visayas) and VIII (Eastern Visayas) recorded the lowest at 2.7 percent each.

UNEMPLOYMENT RATE IN APRIL RISES
TO 6.6%
 

Employment rate in the Bicol Region dropped to 93.4 percent in April 2010 from 93.5 for the same period the previous year as reflected in the recent round of the Labor Force Survey of the National Statistics Office. This means that more Bicolanos were out of job for the period. The Department of Labor and Employment in Bicol Region reported that 28 establishments resorted to permanent closure/retrenchment, displacing around 895 workers in the 1st quarter of 2010.
