BICOL INFLATION REACHES AN ALL-TIME HIGH
IN JULY

Annual inflation rate in the Bicol Region accelerated further in July, posting an all-time high of 13.7 percent. The sharp increases in food prices continued to be the main factor for higher inflation rates for the month and were more pronounced in areas outside of Metro Manila. The July inflation rate jumped 2.5 percentage points from the June level and 11 percentage points from the rate in the same period last year.

BICOL REGION'S ECONOMY EXPANDS BY 7.7%
IN 2007

The economy of the Bicol Region recovered from the effects of devastating typhoons in 2006 to post a healthy 7.7% growth in 2007. The strong performance of the Industry sector accounted for much of the growth of the regional economy.

UNEMPLOYMENT RATE RISES TO 6.5%
IN APRIL

More Bicolanos were out of job in April 2008, as employment rate dropped to 93.5 percent compared to 94.7 percent in the same period last year. Unemployment rate was placed at 6.5 percent, 1.2 percentage points higher than the April 2007 level, based on the latest round of the Labor Force Survey conducted by the National Statistics Office.

POVERTY INCIDENCE IN THE BICOL REGION
WORSENS IN 2006

The National Statistical Coordination Board (NSCB) released the 2006 official poverty estimates that indicated more poor people in 2006 in the Bicol Region. Poverty incidence in the region rose to 41.8 percent, up by 1.2 percentage points from its 2003 level. Poverty incidence is the proportion of families/ population with per capita income less than the per capita poverty threshold to the total number of families/population.
